Berrien Township Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the township hall.Supervisor Paul Bixby called the meeting to order and opened with the pledge to the flag.
Roll call:Supervisor Paul Bixby, Treasurer Paul Sprung, Trustees Ross Rogien and Harold Bishop and Clerk Mary Jane Dean were present.Trustee Julie Burke and Kevin Klug were absent.
Also present: Building Inspector Jim Hoover, Deputy Supervisor Julius Grau, Chris Miller and Ed Beitzel from CPM, two residents and two reporters.
Paul Sprung made a motion seconded by Harold Bishop to approve the agenda.All ayes, none opposed.MOTION CARRIED.
Hall addition – Trustee Ross Rogien reported that the building committee is basically recommending CPM to receive the bid which was the lowest bid.References were checked and the building committee met with CPM last Friday and discussed different options like moving the window in the conference room to the south side of room, also different materials for the soffit, fascia, front columns and the lightning in the meeting room.Chris Miller owner has been in operation for 20 years. Alternate #1 paving could be done later since patching the parking lot is included in the base bid.The committee recommends going with alternate #2 the metal roof for appearance and longer life 50-60 yrs. than 20-30 yrs. for shingles.Base Bid was $497,535.00 plus metal roof of $26,735.00 makes $524,270.00.Finance committee previously set the budget at $525,000.00.Paul Sprung make a motion seconded by Harold Bishop to approve CPM as general contractor for the hall addition and renovations for a base bid of $497,535.00 with alternates not to exceed $525,000.00.Roll call: Five yes votes, Paul Sprung, Harold Bishop, Ross Rogien, Mary Jane Dean and Paul Bixby.Zero no votes, two absent.MOTION CARRIED.
Twp. Roads – Road commission is still working on figures for the list the road committee gave them.It was decided to add Smith Rd. from Painter School Rd. to M-140 to the list.
With the matching funds the Township has in account with the County $31,000.00.
