Berrien Township Board of Trustees met on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the township hall.Supervisor Paul Bixby called the meeting to order and opened with the pledge to the flag.
Roll call:Supervisor Paul Bixby, Treasurer Paul Sprung, Trustees Kevin Klug, Ross Rogien, Harold Bishop, Julie Burke and Clerk Mary Jane Dean were present.
Also present: Fire Chief Tom Stiles, Building Inspector Jim Hoover and Deputy Supervisor Julius Grau.
Ross Rogien made a motion seconded by Paul Sprung to approve the agenda.All ayes, none opposed. MOTION CARRIED.
Mary Jane Dean made a motion seconded by Julie Burke to appoint Johnnie Boone as the Township Representative to the Greater Berrien Springs Recreation Dept.All ayes, none opposed.MOTION CARRIED.
Hall addition – it was decided that no decision will be made the day the bids are open.The building committee will review the bids and make a recommendation to the Board.The Finance committee needs to review the accepted bid to determine what way to go for financing the project.The Board will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 7, 2010 to discuss the bid that will be awarded.
Proposed 2010-2011 budget – There was discussion on the financing for the proposed hall addition the amount of $225,000.00 was put in the budget.
Income:electrical permits was reduced to $7,000.00 and building permits to $8,000.00 and historical books to $25.00.State revenue anticipated decreased to $289,111.00. Expenses: No salary increases for any boards.Election cost center was increased since the County won’t be purchasing supplies in bulk or publishing notices to get lower prices. The fees that the County chargers have also increased therefore it has increased to $8,225.00. Finance Admin. Expense other was reduced to $200.00. Twp. Hall & Grounds Expense other was increased to $12,150.00 for loan and Twp. hall & grounds for hall addition at $225,000.00. Fire Protection - Building improvements was added with $5,000.00 (for resolving ice problem at main station . Building Inspector – Electrical inspector fee was reduced to $5,600.00. Twp. Park DNR – M & R Grounds was increased to $1,000.00 for posts in front of ramp.Community Services – landfill passes with amount of $1,200.00 and disaster relief with amount of $200.00.Planning Commission for professional services the amount of $1,500.00.
